Miele S8390 Kona Canister Vacuum Review

Miele S8390 Kona Canister Vacuum Review

It really goes against my principles if I will be taking sides in regards to reviewing products that in my own perspective, really seem to out perform other products in the same category. So much as I hate to admit it my self, but there are certain tangible reasons why products really sell well in the market. But, in my own experience, product reviews really do make outstanding and critical judgments in a very tactful way in determining the advantages and disadvantages of certain products, in this case, vacuum cleaners.  Since we expect vacuum cleaners to perform well beyond our expectations in regards to their functions, we will go by one product that has always come out with new innovations in regards to the technology that it uses, that affirms it’s right to be called one of the world’s best all around vacuum cleaner in the the market today.

Miele S8390 Kona Canister Vacuum

The Miele S8390 Kona Canister Vacuum is one such product that earns the respect of consumers that have tried for themselves, the excellent design and performance of this German made piece of technological innovation that was incorporated in making this vacuum cleaner. Miele does not rely on other companies in regards to their motor design, in fact, Miele makes their own motors separately in their motor manufacturing company in Gutersloh, Germany. Unlike most vacuum cleaner company that have decided to outsource their vacuum cleaner motors elsewhere in the world, the S8390 Kona still remains a product that is still made in the tradition that Miele intended it to be.

The word “Miele” means honey in Italian, which I can not help but compare it with another Italian name that is also German made, like the Bugatti Veyron named after Edotti Bugatti, who is now owned by Volkswagen. The  S8390 Kona Canister can be compared to that of the Bugatti Veyron in regards to it’s superior design in craftsmanship and technological innovation. It should be noted that Miele used to have a 10 year warranty that it gives in regards to their vacuum cleaners. They actually resorted in reducing the warranty on their motors to 7 years, but also extending that warranty on it’s casing as well!  It’s not so often that you encounter a vacuum cleaner that has a 7 year warranty inside and outside, which just goes to show that Miele really gives importance to their products superior quality.

You might ask why Miele gave a 7 year warranty on their plastic casing? The first time I saw the  S8390 Kona Canister, I always thought that you use it in a position as seen on their advertising campaign, and I thought so too. But what I did not realize is that this was just the storage position and to use the  S8390 Kona Canister, you should have to lay it down on it’s backside. It all came clear to me why Miele put so much emphasis on the development of advance ABS plastics such as the one that they incorporate in the S8390 Kona Canister, because of  how the floor controls can be used with your feet.

The foot controls on the S8390 Kona Canister are made from strong heat pressed ABS plastics, much like those used in car pedals, so you can actually exert the right amount of body weight to push the controls of the vacuum without you ever worrying that you might break it. It really means on stepping on the  S8390 Kona Canister, since you can easily adjust the vacuum motor speed all with just the use of your foot without ever needing to bend down. Going back to the motor, the S8390 Kona Canister’s motor design is one of the most silent running motors ever made by Miele despite having a power rating of 1,200 watts. Miele tends to make their motors run quieter and smoother as all of their motors are ball bearing assembled and do not use the usual carbon brush contact points that most motors do.

Their motor design is so precisely balanced that you can hardly feel any jitters when it is running even at full speeds. If you can convert this to it’s efficiency, this adds up to extra suction power which is a prevalent characteristic of every Miele vacuum cleaner ever made. The turbo suction impeller was deigned in relation to the capabilities of the S8390 Kona Canister’s air intake rate of about 70 to 80 pounds per square inch (PSI) of raw suction power, more than enough to lift an average sized bowling ball. The S8390 Kona Canister needs this power in order to perform appropriately with it’s Active HEPA filter with 12-stage AirClean Sealed System.

Despite of it’s small size (in comparison to it’s power), Miele even had the time to incorporate a storage compartment within the vacuum itself where the integrated dusting brush, upholstery tool and crevice nozzle are securely tucked away and to think that it only measures 17.2 by 23.2 and 14.6 inches respectively. The SEB 228 Electro Plus electrobrush has a five-level height adjustment setting that is suitable for medium to high-pile carpeting and smooth flooring. It also has a Parquet Twister floor brush that can swivel to a variety of positions that can clean those hard to reach places without much exerted effort. Also, the S8390 Kona Canister has a 33 foot cleaning radius that can cover more that an adequate cleaning area without you having to constantly unplug it from your wall socket, added to this you don’t have to constantly roll up the electrical chord because it can automatically be retracted back into the unit itself with a flick of a switch.

Priced at a hefty $929 dollars, this piece of German technology out performs and out lasts the competition just by the motor design alone! Beyond the 7 years of warranty that Miele gives to it’s products, it also attests to their durability without compromising their quality, given that a Miele vacuum cleaner can last up to 20 years of dependable service!
